Piano Lessons
We believe in developing well-rounded, musical students, and that studying piano is one of the best possible ways to accomplish this. Performances are encouraged; group recitals occur at the end of each semester and a commitment to consistent practice habits is expected. Here are some of the details:
- Lessons take place at the Wheeler Home
- Half hour and hour long lessons available
- Monthly or weekly payments at $15 per half hour
- Flexible Lesson Schedule to fit your needs
We’d love to have a free consultation with you to see if we’re the right fit for your musical endeavors! Come get a sample lesson, talk about expectations and goals, and see our passion for learning and success!
Improvisation Techniques
Improvisation is a dying art, becoming more and more of an exclusive musical practice limited to musicians who “play by ear”. The truth is that any dedicated pianist can learn the basic techniques of improvisation. In Improvisation Techniques, we explore the concepts of theory and chord structure and apply it to playing piano. Traditional and contemporary methods will be discussed. Especially recommended for students who want to (or already do) play as a church musician.
Both Matt and Dani have had years of experience playing piano for churches. Matt currently serves as the pianist with the Bayside Baptist Church (Superior, WI) worship team.
Composition Lessons
Composition Lessons are also offered, for the student just beginning to explore and discover the joys of writing music or for the budding composer to get feedback, advice and encouragement. Lessons are held weekly. Purchase of Sibelius Music Notation Software is strongly recommended.
Past composition students have gone on to win awards with IMTA and the Iowa Composers Forum. In 2010, students Eliot Barker and Clayton Dryden recieved 1st and 2nd place in the elementary division of the Iowa Student Composers Competition.
