Sinfonietta – 2010

  1. Sinfonietta, recorded by the Coe College Symphony Orchestra. These piece is subtitled “The Hastening Sun” and is inspired by Ecclesiastes 1:5, 9. “The sun rises and the sun sets and hastens on to rise again… there is nothing new beneath the sun.” The three movements, which outline the sun’s journey from Noon to Midnight to Noon again are entitled “Fanfare”, “Cradle Song” and “Prelude”. The latter half of the scripture is my perception on some modern classical composers who are so wrapped up in the pursuit of the “New” that the respect for beauty has been placed by the wayside. These verses revolutionized my mindest as a composer.
